Hyderabad, India – August 21, 2013

Six ethical hackers from the city will represent India at the Global CyberLympics Hacking Championship to be held in Atlanta, USA, next month as part of a global search to identify experts, who can help strengthen security systems of countries.

CyberLympics is an international ethical hacking, computer forensics and computer network defence competition which started in 2010. This is the first time that a team from India has qualified to compete with the world’s best.

A team representing IT solutions provider Southern Cross Computer Systems has been crowned APAC champions at the 2012 Global CyberLympics – with a shot at winning the worldwide title still up for grabs.

The Global CyberLympics is a 24-hour hacking competition organised by the EC-Council Foundation that attempts to put the spotlight on issues relating to information security. Organisations from around the world are invited to take part in a series of cyber challenges encompassing forensics, ethical hacking and defence.

Sri Lankan team ‘WhiteHat’, having survived stiff competition from regional giants from the Asia Pacific region, entered the Global CyberLympics world finals to be held in Miami, Florida in October.

The Global CyberLympics is a not-for-profit initiative of the EC-Council Foundation supported by the Geneva-based International Telecommunications Union (ITU). Its goal is to raise awareness towards increased education and ethics in information security through a series of cyber competitions that encompass forensics, ethical hacking and defence. The mission statement of the Global CyberLympics is “Unifying Global Cyber Defence through the Games.”

Maryland, USA – September 11, 2012

The UMUC Cyber Padawans—a team of undergraduate cybersecurity students, alumni and faculty—took first place in the North American CyberLympics finals, held online Sept. 4, 2012. The win qualifies the Cyber Padawans to represent North America at the Global CyberLympics on Oct. 29, 2012, in Miami, Florida.

Through three rounds of competition that began on Aug. 8, the Cyber Padawans topped a field of almost 80 teams, some from other colleges and universities and others composed of professionals working in the field. The EC Council (the International Council of Electronic Commerce Consultants) sponsored the event and announced the final results on Sept. 10.

CICRA Education announced yesterday that it will host two teams from Sri Lanka at the annual Global CyberLympics 2012.

“We will host our two teams up to the World Finals on October 29 in Miami, USA,” CICRA Director/CEO Boshan Dayaratne said. “This is the first time in CyberLympics history that a team from Sri Lanka will represent the competition.”

Seven teams from around the world are pitting their cyberattack and defense skills against each other this week in the first international CyberLympics hacker games.

The games, being hosted by iSight Inc. in Chantilly, Va., are organized by the International Council of E-Commerce Consultants (EC-Council) and are the culmination of a series of regional competitions that began last year.
